Kitchen Studio
Design Awards 2024
Our KS designers create beautiful Kitchens that are loved and enjoyed for many years by their clients. This is your opportunity to be recognised for design excellence within the Kitchen Studio network. All Kitchen Studio designers and consultants are encouraged to enter the awards.
The 2024 Design Awards will be presented at our Kitchen Studio Gala Awards Dinner during the Kitchen Studio Annual Conference in Christchurch on Thursday 16th May.
Entries Open on Thursday 29th February 2024.
Support Office will create a professionally designed entry board incorporating your kitchen images, plans and elevations, client design brief, design statement and specifications on your behalf. The boards will be displayed at the Conference.
There have been some changes made to the award categories this year.
Creative Excellence Award – this has been combined with the Visual Impact award category as they had very similar judging criteria to each other.
New Category - Functional Kitchen – Many of our kitchens are ‘U’ or ‘G’ shaped and don’t photograph well. They are therefore not always entered or are not favoured with the judges. This award focuses on the functionality not the aesthetics of the kitchen. Special attention should be paid to the Design Statement to ensure the judges understand how the functionality works within the design. All kitchens are eligible for this award.

Design Award Categories
All Design entries will be eligible for awards in the following categories:
Kitchen of the Year
$1500
This is the overall ultimate winning entry from all valid kitchen entries. This category winner will have displayed overall exceptional design processes including outstanding brief, design and concept, style, plans, and specifications based on the judges’ discretion and in accordance with NKBA/Certified Designers guidelines. The winning entry of this category is ineligible to win any other award.
Kitchen of the year - Runner up
$250
Creative Excellence
$500
Judges will be looking for the entry with the best overall creative design. The winner of this category is the entry judged to have used the most effective application of colour, textures, tiles, and different finishes that provide visual impact.
Best Functional Kitchen
$500
This award focuses on the functionality not the aesthetics of the kitchen. The judges will be taking special note of how the Design Statement matches the Design Brief. The detail within the kitchen will play an important part in this kitchen -unique and client-specific design will be rewarded.
People’s Choice
$1000
Entries will be collated and distributed to the Kitchen Studio and approved Supplier network for voting. All members of both networks can vote once only. Design Consultants cannot vote for themselves, and Franchise Owners cannot vote for their own consultants. The entry with the highest number of votes will be the winner of our People’s Choice award.

The following categories need to be specified upon entry to be considered.
Design Award Categories to be opted into:
Creative Small Space Kitchen
$500
You must tick and opt-in to be included in this category. Measurements must be taken from the finished wall to wall and include island space if applicable. If the island or breakfast bar return has seating, then 700mm must be added to the room depth at this point. Kitchen size must not exceed 10m2. A room sketch with the measurements and calculations will need to be submitted.
Kitchen Distinction Award – up to $25k (incl. gst)
$500
You must tick and opt-in to be included in this category.
The price must represent the entire value of the kitchen including GST, the materials, cabinetry and benchtop materials, manufacturing, and installation. It excludes appliances, and sub-trades i.e. plumber, builder and electrician.
Validation of costs must be provided either as a signed quotation or a copy of the final invoice costs, verified by a signed declaration. Please note that any kitchens owned by the entrant, or their immediate family are excluded from this award category. Showrooms are also ineligible for this award.
First time Entrant
$500
You must tick and opt-in to be included in this category.
It is open to all designers who are entering the Awards for the first time.
Character Kitchen Design
$500
You must tick and opt-in to be included in this category.
This category winning design will consistently reflect the character of the home where the design features honour the style of the property. Judges will be looking for attention to detail.
All 2024 submissions must be entered through the online entry form which will be advised of and be live at the time entries open.

One design board will be created for each entry and used for judging and display.
Entries must include:
- A completed online entry form.
- A hero image of the entry kitchen in landscape.
- Four other images of the kitchen (these can be in either landscape or portrait).
- One floor plan.
- 3 – 4 main elevations.
- A client design brief of up to 175 words.
- A design statement of up to 250 words.
- A product specification list – including all supplier names.
- A signed declaration form.
- A sign quotation or Invoice and signed declaration (Kitchen Distinction Award – Under $25K incl. GST category only).
All Entries must follow the guidelines as outlined in the Conditions of Entry.
